DP83630 vs DP83848J+MCU

Hi E2E,

I have a customer who needs PTP. The customer could use the built-in functionality within the DP83630 but he has an MCU with that capability. Could he use the DP83848J with his MCU and achieve the same results? Would the MCU time stamping support suffice to provide PTP/1588 functionality?

Hi Sam,

The customer can use the DP83848. It depends though on the amount of precision the customer requires. DP83630 allows for hardware time-stamp. This will give them nanosecond precision. DP83848 does not have this feature.
