TUSB1046 Re-driver EVM

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB211, TUSB1046-DCI

Hello,

I'd like to build some intelligence around the TUSB1046 and use the USB 2.0 interface (part of the USB C standard signals) to communicate with a USB host device.  Does the EVM enable this exploration?

Similar to the TUSB1046 DisplayPort EVM, is there TI design available for HDMI?

Thanks.

  • Hello Manny,

You only have to directly connect the DP & DM signals from the Host to the Type-C connector, the most common practice is short both DP & DM pins on the connector side, also if needed you can include a USB2 re-driver (TUSB211). Unfortunately, we do not have an HDMI solution for Type-C, in fact, this spec is still under development but most video sources supports DP++ or DP signaling, especially GPUs.

    Regards,
    Diego.
  • Hello Diego,

Can you explain further the reason why TUSB1046-DCI can't support HDMI? The bandwidth is less than DP and the signals can be AC coupled correct?

    Best Regards,

    Casey

  • Hello Casey,

By the time I answered this post we didn't have any test or specification to confirm whether the TUSB1046-DCI supports HDMI alternate mode. Now we can conclude that the device supports such mode, you only have to include the pull-up terminations for the HDMI source before the AC capacitors in the DP input of the TUSB1046-DCI.

    Regards,
    Diego.
