TMDS181 application questions

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMDS181

Hello,

My customer want to use TMDS181, there are some quesions from them, please help to give your comments, thanks

1. There are three kinds of I2C signals, what are the difference?

2. My customer told me that they will use 4 pcs of TMDS181 on their board, how do they deal with the I2C? you know there is only one I2C address for our part

3. All our I2C signals are 5V tolerance?

4. What is the function of HPD implementation circuit? we find there is the circuit in our datasheet and EVM design

5. Our part can support swap function as below, if our part use this function, what's the max data rate our part can run?

  • Hi NanFang,

    You cand. find the answer to all your questions in the datasheet.

    1. There are:

        SCL_SNK/SDA_SNK -> DDC going to HDMI monitor

        SCL_SRC/SCL_SRC -> DDC coming from HDMI source

        SCL_CTL/SDA_CTL -> Local I2C configuration

    2. In I2C mode(I2C_EN=High) EQ_SEL/A0 together with A1 set the I2C address of the device, so they can control 4 different TMDS181 with different addresses

    3. SCL_SNK/SDA_SNK and SCL_SRC/SCL_SRC are 5V tolerant, SCL_CTL/SDA_CTL works with 3.3V, refer to Datasheet table in section 6.8

    4. The 5V HPD implementation circuit in figure 35, is just a level shifter, HDMI requires 5V on HPD and TMDS181 high level on HPD_SRC is 3.3V

    5. TMDS181 is intended for HDMI2.0 applications, it can work up to 6Gbps. Swapping lanes doesn't make any difference in the data rate supported.
