TPS65982 / AMSEL

Hi Team,

The following application note shows the following and I understood GPIOx that is assigned to AMSEL is possible to output Hi-Z.
http://www.tij.co.jp/jp/lit/an/slva838/slva838.pdf

I would like to ask two questions.

1)
Does the application note show AMSEL outputs Hi-Z when type-C device that doesn't support Dsiplay port is connected?

2)
If I use HD3SS460 (Alternate Mode MUX) with TPS65982 and don't want to use external resistors, do you recommend to enable both "Internal Pull Down Enable" and "Internal Pull Up Enable" as the following in application customization tool?

I believe there is no ploblem if I enable "Internal Pull Down Enable" only.
Is my understanding correct?

  • Hello,

    1. AMSEL will output Hi-Z if the port still requires USB 3.0 data without entering the Display Port Alternate Mode. The AMSEL GPIO will also be Hi-Z if nothing is connected to the Type-C Port.

    2. As you highlighted in the GPIO App Note, it is recommended to have a pull-up and pull-down of equal value. So when mapping the AMSEL GPIO, it is best to have both an internal pull up and pull down. If not, you will not be able to enter the Hi-Z state.

    Thank you,
    Eric
