DP83848I in SERCOS bus

Hi all,

one of my customer is selecting a Ethernet PHY for real time bus (SERCOS). The TWG of SERCOS has qualified the DP83848I as a PHY, but it says taht "... a workaround on the Link Loss is required through some hidden registers of the phy".

Since the application is critical safety the designer is asking for the documentation related the hidden registers and the workaround.

Can you please provide more details on this tipic ? Or alternatively is there any other PHY that could be considered in the next future by SERCOS, such as DP83640 ?

Hi Domenico,
I am not familiar with such requirement. Do you mind sharing where you found this? The DP83848 should be capable of operating on a SERCOS bus without special hidden registers.
Also, you can look into using the DP83822. It's our latest 10/100Mbps Ethernet PHY.

Hi Ross,

the info related to warkoaround of the DP83848I comes from a consultant. The customer needs to operate at ETH 100M/1G in Safety Critical Level-A application. Alternatively, can the DP83640 do the same job ?
