TPS65983B: Customized VDM renegotiation

Part Number: TPS65983B

Hi

My customer is developing a dock that need to support customized VDM when connected to host Notebook, when we detach the AC adapter from the dock and connect the dock to NB type C port, as the supportive of dead-batery, PD controller in dock will automatically process the PD negotiation with Notebook and eventually enter the customized alternate mode, after doing that NB will sent the "Get Status" VDM to dock to tell some system status, while at that moment MCU in dock have not been initialized yet and could not response to any VDM IRQ. So do we have certain registers or 4CC command on host interface that is able to force PD controller in Notebook to re-initiate alternate mode entering process (discover SVID/discover mode/enter mode) without any impact to power delivery contract established, so that notebook could re-send the "Get Status" VDM to MCU again when it is ready

thanks

  • Chun,

Why do you need to re-initiate the AM discovery/enter process? NB can resend the 'Get Status' command using 4CC command 'VDMs' - Let me know if this works for your problem statement. Else, please check the details for 4CC command AMDs, AMEn and AMEx in the host-interface TRM.
