SN65DSI86: eDP resolution on SN65DSI86

Part Number: SN65DSI86

Hi team,

One of our customers would like to know what the maximum eDP output resolution is If only 2 DSI lane signals connect to the input of SN65DS186?

Thanks for your support and time,

Leroy Song

  • Hello Leroy,

It depends on the maximun DSI clock rate supported by your GPU and the desired color bit depth (18bpp or 24bpp). For example, the device support a 1680 × 1050  resolutiuon at 60 Hz and 24bpp, with a DSI pixel clock of 750Mhz and two DSI data lanes.

    Regards

  • Hi Joel,

Thanks for detail explanation. Is there the table or the information that shows the DSI clock speed and number of lanes versus the DP resolution? From the below description I got from the customer, the system should be able to support 1920x1080p(60Hz) resolution of eDP panel with 2 lanes DSI, right? Please advised. Thanks again for your help!!

  • Hello Leroy Song,

They would need more than two lanes to support a 1920x1080p(60Hz) resolution panel.
