Hi,

I want to design a HUB USB 3.0 and looking the TUSB8041 datasheet I reach the OTP configuration and I want to ask if the OTP is mandatory for the proper operation of the IC. How will the IC work If there is no OTP configuration loaded in the EEPROM? all downstram devices will be setted as removable and thats it? I ment the IC will work as a USB HUB without any configuration if it is properly routed?

What should be configured in order to make the IC work as an USB 3.0 HUB?

Hello,
The Hub will fully work as a USB3.0 Hub with its default values, there is no need to do any extra configuration through OTP or I2C.

Thanks a lot for the support provided.
I have an other questoin, knowing that all the downstream ports together won't consume more than 500mA can the TUSB8041 work as a bus powered device?

What modifications must be done in order to make it work as a bus powered device?

Hello,
The tUSB8041 will not work with bus power, since this is a USB3.0 hub the power on VBUS won't be enough for a single downstream device, non USB3.0 hub will work with just bus-power.

Hi,

I found quite interesting when you said that not USB3.0 HUb will work with just bus-power when there are available a lot of comercial USB 3.0 HUBs that dont need any external power supply.

What if the current comsumption of all the downstream devices is less than 500mA ? Can it be done?

Hello,
Theoretically, if the downstream devices are low-current devices(not likely for most of USB3.0 devices) then a USB3.0 hub could work in bus-power mode, if one of the dowsntream devices is a high-current device (per specified by the USB3.0 Spec) then the VBUS coming from the USB Host controller won't be able to support that, that is why the Hub was designed to work only as a self-power, we have other USB2.0 Hubs that can work in bus-power mode. Look for the TUSB4020B or TUSB4041I
