Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83848-EP
I have a customer asking the following questions:
In our product I use the DP83848-EP component, but this component has a range of MAC addresses that are not allowed for use with the switch that I use on my installed systems. Would it be possible to change this MAC number?
I am using the DP83848 device in my product and it has the address FF-00-FF-FF-FF-FF but this address is reserved in RFC7042, so the question is if you have any special reason to write this address on the chip, because with Address cannot use the Allied Telesis AT-8000 Series switches that are certified.
I explained that there is a range of addresses available in the DP83848, but he still has an issue due to the issue stated above. Is there anything we can do to help the customer? Do we have another device that might work better in his application? I read another post that stated that the customer would need to get their own MAC addresses, but I am not sure how this relates to the questions posed by the customer. Could you explain in more detail? Is it possible for him to actually use our devices?
Thanks for your help with this!
