TPS254900-Q1: Charge Current over 1.5A

Part Number: TPS254900-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2543

Hi,

I'm understanding the TPS254900-Q1 does not support DCP mode and divider mode.

Can the TPS254900-Q1 supply into the iPhone or iPad over 1.5A?

If it can, how we should set the TPS254900-Q1?

Best Regards,

Kuramochi

  • Since the "i" device is connected to a CDP port, it will not draw more than 1.5A even though TPS254900Q1 could provide more than 1.5A. Remember, it is the portable device which draws the current depending on what type of port it is connected to.
  • Hi Eric-san,

    Thank you for your answer.

    I have an additional question.

Legacy port controllers(TPS2543/4/6) support charge current above 1.5A for "i"device.
In other words, they support the divider mode.
Could you tell me why the TPS254900 does not support divider mode for my reference?
(Is it because existing "i" devices don't require divider mode...?)
I would like to explain this background to my customer.

    Best Regards,
    Kuramochi
