TUSB9261: Could USB throughput be different between Firmware version of TUSB926x?

Guru 29720 points
Part Number: TUSB9261

Hi Team,

My customer said USB throughput is different between using EVM (TUSB9261DEMO) and using customer designed board that uses TUSB9261.
These are almost the same hardware except firmware version of TUSB9261.

He confirmed the firmware version of TUSB9261DEMO is "v 0.98" and the cutomer board uses "v 1.05".
I heard throughput of the cutomer board is slower than TUSB9261DEMO.
Is it possible case?

In addition, could I have TUSB9261 firmware "v 0.98"?

Best Regards,
Yaita / Japan disty

  • May I have your comments?
    Your support would be appreciated.

  • Throughput should be similar.  Ask them to update EVM to v1.05 to compare.  TUSB926x_FW_v0.98a (2).zip

  • Hi Brian-san,

Thank you for establishing a link to firmware v0.98, however my customer needs firmware for "SATA_NO_POLARITY_SWAP".
The firmware v0.98 in your link is for "SATA_POLARITY_SWAP_TX" application as TUSB9261EVM.

When I download firmware from TUSB9261 product folder, I found firmware v1.05 of "SATA_NO_POLARITY_SWAP" version in Alternate SATA Polarity FW folder.

Could I have the firmware "v 0.98" of "SATA_NO_POLARITY_SWAP" version?

    Yaita

  • Is there firmware "v 0.98" of "SATA_NO_POLARITY_SWAP" version?

  • The version provided will work with the DEMO board.  They can update the board to v1.05 and then run benchmark.  And then they can flash back to v0.98 for comparison.

Also try the FW posted here on 1/25:  https://e2e.ti.com/support/interface/usb/f/1008/p/557281/2089746#2089746

  • Brian-san,

My customer tried "v1.06" posted on 1/25, however there is no difference from "v1.05" in terms of throughput.

I heard there is definitely different throughput between "v0.98" and "v1.05" and also considers to use "v0.98" in his system.
So he still wants to get firmware "v0.98" of "SATA_NO_POLARITY_SWAP" version.

Your support would be really appreciated.

    Yaita

  • Hi Yaita,

Can you give me more detail about the customers test and a their results?  What transfer protocol?  Operating system?  I tested both version and the newer FW has better performance. Both using BOT protocol.

    Regards,

    Brian

  • Hi Brian-san,

I put my customer's test result as the following.
    ----------------------------------------
    [Board]                    [FW]      [Read]         [Write]
    TUSB9261DEMO   0.98     92.94MB/s   24.01MB/s
                                         1.05     15.56MB/s   15.00MB/s
    Customer's Board  0.98     93.40MB/s   23.02MB/s
                                          1.05    15.54MB/s   16.24MB/s
*This is the result under my customer's software not benchmark software, so it is different speed from your result.
*It is the same test environment between TUSB9261DEMO and Customer's Board.

    - transfer protocol: BOT protocol(probably)
    - Operating system: Windows7
    ----------------------------------------
I heard there is no difference throughput between v0.98 and v1.05 with Windows8.1 or Windows10, however there is definitely different with Windows7.
According to the customer's result, He considers to adopt "v0.98" and wants to get firmware of "SATA_NO_POLARITY_SWAP" version for his board.

Could you give me the firmware "v0.98" of "SATA_NO_POLARITY_SWAP" version?
    Your support would be appreciated.

    Best Regards,
    Yaita

  • Hi Yaita,

Please contact me directly to discuss.  I would like to understand this discrepancy in performance.  There are no changes that should result in this large decrease in performance so I would like to understand it.

    Regards,
    Brian

  • Hi Brian-san,
