TPS65982: Dead battery behavior of TPS65982

Part Number: TPS65982
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65988

I'm using the TPS65982 on the notebook product, and study a document 'SLVUAH7A TPS65982 and TPS65986 Firmware User’s Guide'

I have some question of the 'dead battery'

1. If the TPS65982 power on from VBUS, ie, the dead battery, then the host never send the 'DBfg' command, it will cause any problem? Does affect the power consumption?

2. If the TPS65982 power on by VIN_3V3, not dead battery, then the host send the 'DBfg' command, it will cause any problem?

3. If host send the 'DBfg' command, but VIN_3V3 is no power, it will cause any problem?

One more thing, we are study the TPS65988, does TI can provide the 'Firmware User’s Guide' for TPS65988?

Thank you.

  • A1: Yes - The EC is expected to clear the dead-battery flag once the system is self sustainable and able to provide VIN_3V3. There could be possible power loss if it's not cleared.

A2: The command will be rejected/ignored if the device is not in dead-battery mode

A3: It might cause problems when the supply is changed to VIN3V3.

    Thanks & Regards,
    Praneet
