P82B96: Requesting for Connection details

Part Number: P82B96

Hello,

We have shortlisted P82B96 for our application which would exted the I2C distance over distance.  But i need to know what Why there are four lines for I2C lines.

For connecting my slave, i have Sx and Sy. And to send over distance i have Tx, Ty, Rx and Ry. I want to know why we have four lines and how could i connect these lines to send SDA and SCL>

  • Hello Kiran,
The P82B96 is designed to facilitate long cable/PCB lengths and separating the Rx and Tx allows for implementation using an opto-isolator. Most opto couplers are not bidirectional that is why Tx and Rx is separated on the chip and you need to connect together if you want to do bidirectional communications without opto isolation. The drive strength of the Tx/y Rx/y side is much stronger than the Sx and Sy side. It can support up to 4,000pF.
