TPS65982: Driver ability of GPIOs

Part Number: TPS65982

Hi team,

Could you tell me Max driver current of each GPIOx?

Datasheet doesn't seem to contain that information.

Regards,

Takashi Onawa

  • Hi Takashi,

We do not recommend drawing current from the GPIO pins as this could easily damage the chip.

    Thank you,
    Eric
  • Hi Eric-san,

Thanks for your prompt response on this.

They do not want to dynamically draw current from the GPIO. They just want to sense GPIO output level and use its transaction as a trigger event in their EP.

Fundamentally, the spec is defines as I_OH and I_OL in almost device in its datasheet but I did't find it in datasheet of TPS65982.

These spec should be opened for general system design though, could you disclose it for the customer?

    Regards,

  • Hi Takashi-san,

The GPIO pins can easily be used to trigger events inside an EP. The input pins of an EP will not draw much current from the GPIO pins and will not cause issues on the TPS65982. However, it is not recommended to run LEDs off of the GPIO pins as this could draw too much current from the GPIOs and potentially harm the device.

    Thank you,
    Eric
