Hi Sir,

1. May I know TPS65982 Configuration Tool difference about version 1.3 and version2.1?
Since we have test Configuration Tool V2.1 building FW for docking power delivery 20V/3A to Dell XPS15&Mac Pro(15 inch) occur overcurrent issue.
But test Configuration Tool V1.3 building same FW for docking power delivery 20V/3A to Dell XPS15&Mac Pro(15 inch) function is OK.

End customer feedback me TPS65986 is no problem in this case.
2. May I know Configuration Tool difference about TPS65982 and TPS65986?

3. Also change E-Mark 5A cable can fix OCP issue.
   May I know relative communication about TI and E-Mark cable?

4. another question about new version product has five PDO (relative PD success), but has un-know device in Device Manager.
   I have double confirm, is TPS65982. this project has no DP ALT mode.
   Could you help check our config setting has error? thanks.

Hi Kuo,

I have a few follow up questions that will help in solving the issue:

1. When you look at the PD Status register, do you see the over current trip there?

2. Can you send a PD trace if available?

3. Does the system eventually stabilize or does it hit the OCP trip for a long time?

For question 1, 3

1. We config OCP/OVP interrupt event to verify result show is OCP event.

3. Check 1 minuut, OCP still not stabilize.

Hi Kuo,

I noticed in your config file that you have set the peak current to 130-150% for the source capabilities. This may be why you are seeing an OCP event when using a standard cable. Standard cables are mostly rated for a max of 3A. If the peak current is set to 130-150% this is closer to 5A. This also explains why you do not see this issue with E-Marked cables as those are rated for 5A. If you set the Peak Current to 100% in the Source Capabilities I expect this issue to go away.
