Hello,

What is a best place for SN75LVCP601  redrivers?

I have a COM Express Module (SATA Host) -> Carrier Board -> Backplane -> SSD Carrier Board (SATA Device)

SN75LVCP601 is  a Dual Redriver and provide support for Single SATA link.

For SN75LVCP600S (Single Redriver) there are placements recommendation - redrivers must be placed near RX side of HOST (or SATA Device)
according datasheet page 14. But such placement is not available for single SN75LVCP601 for SATA link (Redriver will be or near HOST or Near Device or inbetween)

I thing best solution place two SN75LVCP601. First close to HOST (near COM Express connector), second near SSD on SSD Carrier board.

What you think about such configuration?

Any pros. and cons? Any problems with OOB signalling, etc.

    There is no picture attached, however for these dual channel redrivers what we recommend is to place it close to the device with less EQ.
    Most of the times the host has more EQ capabilities, so the recommendation is to place LVCP501 close to SSD, however, this is not always true.
    You may need to place the redriver in the middle where LVCP601's EQ matches the losses is both channels.

    Probably using two 601 is overkill but I would like to reach the most reliable connection in SATA 3 mode.

    We can`t analyze losses because all HOST`s and SSD`s can have a different equalisation and driving possibilities

    And we have a four pairs of connectors through data link between SATA Host chip (Intel PCH on COM Express Module) and SSD chip (inside SSD)
    601`s redrivers have a widest available EQ and PRE setting from others Texas Instruments redrivers.

    Whether it is possible to expect some problems with using pairs of 601`s?

    I have seen the pdf, depending on the length of the trace just one redriver may be enough, I will send you by email a couple application notes.
    Having this device in cascade hasn't been tested, however, we know SN65LVCP1414 can be placed in cascade and it has more EQ capabilities.
