SN65LVCP40: Using SN65LVCP40 for distributing SDI

Part Number: SN65LVCP40
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMH0344, DS25BR204

Does anyone know whether the SN65LVCP40 is suitable for distributing SDI.  eg, if I come off a cable equalizer LMH0344 can I feed the SN65LVCP40 and get a pair of differential outputs, one for a loop through and one for deserializing from it?  This needs to work at 270MHz, 1.5GHz and 3GHz.  The bandwidth on the datasheet suggests it is capable of this, but with different pathalogical signals in SDI compared to ethernet or similar I was wondering if it would cope?  I have had an issue in the past trying much the same with a DS25BR204 and that didn't work.  I don't want to get burnt again with this part, but want a cheaper alternative to multiple LMH0395s.

  • Hi Simon,

SN65LVCP40 has not been tested for SDI, you would need to check the compatibility of electrical signals, regarding the data rate it should work.

If you are looking for a switch with redriver, LVCP device could work, if you only need switching, we have HD3SS* passive switches that may work too.

You would need to check if the electrical characteristics of SDI are supported by these devices.
