TLK1501: High speed intervonnction of two FPGA's

Part Number: TLK1501

Hi,

I like to connect two FPGA's by gigabit fiber optics. The optical module, i like to use is made for gigabit ethernet like Broadcom AFBR-5921. With these interconnection, i like to mirror 32 bit registers between the FPGA's. Since I like to have the FPGA design as simple as possible, i like to use an external SerDes chip. The TLK1501 seems to be suitable  because of its 16bit interface. But it is from year 2000. I have no idea how long it is available on the market. Since the Ethernet SeDes are made for Ethernet communication, i am not sure if they are fully suitable for my application. Perhaps i have overlooked some restriction on the datasheet.

Which chip would fullfill best my application ? Since my design is for industrial machines, the part must be long available.

  • Hello Michael,

The TLK1501 seems to fit your requirements. Despite this device is from 2000, in the web site appears as an active device, hence, Texas Intruments has plans to keep it in the market, please let me verify with the team how long is TI planning to keep this device. ASAP I will be back with the information.
