HD3SS215: HD3SS215 about the resolution question

Part Number: HD3SS215

Hi team,

The customer is using HD3SS215. The datasheet shows HD3SS215 can support  the 4K2K 60HZ refresh rates.

What does the mean by the 4K2K 60HZ refresh rates?

Does the  4K2K mean the 3840×2160p resolution or the  4096×2160p resolution?

Best Wishes,

  • Hi Mickey,

Our device provide support for data rate, the resolution supported will depend on refresh rate, chroma sampling, and color depth.

HD3SS215 supports data rates up to 6Gbps per lane, in total 18Gbps for HDMI.

From SMPTE , both 3840x2160(UHD) and 4096x2160(4k) 60Hz, 8bits per color, 4:4:4, require the same total bandwidth of 17.82Gbps

From VESA, 3840x2160(UHD) reduced blanking, 8bits per color, 4:4:4, require the same total bandwidth of 16Gbps

    Regards

  • Hi Mosies,

    Thank you for your reply.

Can HD3SS215 support 4096*2160resolution , 60Hz ,color depth 8bit or 10 bit? If not ,can you recommend a suitable IC?
  • Hi Mickey,

Yes, it can support up to 6Gbps per lane which is enough for 4096x2160 @60Hz. 8 bit. 4:4:4
4096x2160 @60Hz. 10 bit. 4:4:4 is out of HDMI2.0 spec, it requires 22.28Gbps in total, HDMI2.0 supports up to 18Gbps in total.
