TUSB211: TUSB211 EQ levels other than 0, 1, 2 and 3

Part Number: TUSB211

Hi all,

My TUSB211 is located as follow. Host > 6 in of trace > connector > 12 in of trace > USB connector.

With EQ setting = 3.9K, the eye diagram "marginally" pass the HS compliant. Can I play with other resistor's values like 3.8K, 4.1K, .....

For my next board spin, I am considering routing the USB traces on outer layers for less loss and may add a second TUSB211 near the USB connector.

Please help answer my questions.

Thanks,

Mike N.

  • Hello Naser,

Internally the TUSB211 has comparators to enable each EQ level, so there will be no change if you try a different resistance. Indeed the best thing to do is to route the USB traces on the outer layers and avoid the use of vias. Perhaps the best practices would be to place the TUSB211 closer to the connector or include a second re-driver. Please remember that this device improves the slew rate by injecting current to the signal but it does not compensate the DC loss; if your result is marginal due to the DC loss you can also try to configure the USB PHY in order to increase the output swing.

    Best regards,

    Diego.
