TPS65982: TPS65982 source bulk capacitance

Part Number: TPS65982

Hi, Team,

For the SrcBulkShared according to the PD spec, the customer must put 120uF or more capacitance near PP_5V0 and PP_CABLE. Could you teach me the max capacitance value? or does it depend on the power supply?

I found the below post, so I am going to recommend 150uF.

  • Hello,

The bulk capacitance is to help with a slower discharge during a power role swap. The capacitance also helps with ensuring a slower ramp up when going to a higher voltage PD contract. There is no maximum specification for this value as more capacitance here is usually considered better.

In PD 3.0 spec, this Source Cap is more important due to the introduction of Fast Role Swap. The Bulk Capacitance is there to hold the voltage momentarily during the FRS event to ensure that VBUS does not fall too fast for the power roles to swap.
For most implementations, 150uF is more than enough capacitance.

    Thank you,
    Eric
