TUSB501: TUSB8041

Part Number: TUSB501
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB8041

Hello Team,

Could you please answer a customer question?

we intend to use TI’s USB components in our medical device.

Our device is connected to the PC by a single USB3.0 port, and this is the connectivity

PC USB3.0 port <-> Cable + connectors <-> TUSB501 USB Redriver  <-> PCBs + connectors <-> TUSB501 USB REDRIVER <->  TUSB8041 USB3.0 HUB<-> DS ports

The USB3.0 Hub has different DS ports in our two different applications:

  1. 1 DS port of USB3.0 + 1 DS port of USB2.0
  2. 3 DS ports of USB2.0

We have several question regarding this connectivity:

  1. Is this Redriver (TUSB501) is the right component for this application?

  1. The USB3.0 channel is our system passes through cable, PCBs and connectors, and we have to make sure that its SI has no problem at any point.

Therefor we’re considering using two redrivers, one after the cable from the PC, and the second is close to the USB hub.

Is it possible to connect two Redrivers in this channel (two for RX and two for TX)?

  1. Is it possible to connect only the signals of the USB3.0 from the PC (i.e. two differential signal – TX and RX) and not to connect the USB2.0 signals (DP, DM)?

  1. We have internal voltage supply to the USB hub and devices in our system.

Should we connect the VBUS signal between the PC to the USB hub?

Thank you. Looking forward for your reply.

Best,

Needhu
