Linux/DP83867IR: Problem in pinging with DP83867IR

Hello everyone,

I have problem in pinging. I am using DP83867IR chip with cyclone v soc in RGMII mode.I am using linux os. I have added DP83867IR driver which downloaded from TI website and updated my linux image. OS able to detect the phy chip and link is also up..able communicate with phy chip through mdio commands. when i do the ping command MAC is sending signal to phy chip and phy also giving MDI outputs for the ping command. But other side no packtes received. I checked wireshark too .No packet is receiving

Hi Shanmugam,

Are you using any internal delays or board delays for the RGMII interface?
By default, RGMII sends data in align mode (i.e. clock and data on same edge).
You will need to enable internal delay on either the MAC or PHY.
For the PHY you can do it both on the TX and RX path. Let me know what the setting is for your system.

Also, an easy check to confirm if it is a digital or analog related issue is to enable various loopbacks.

To see if the issue is on the MAC side, can you enable a digital loopback in the 867?
Set register 0x16 bits[5:2] = 0b0001

If you have a link partner capable of sending a ping, you can also enable a reverse loopback to check the analog (MDI) side:
Set register 0x16 bits[5:2] = 0b1000

Thank you for your reply.
I will try your suggestion. Additional to that , the data is received from the PC and i am able get the packet in the software.But transmission is still problem. Now i have one question. The MDI output level is 1 V. As per the standard it should be 2.5 V . I am using 1:1 transformer. Is any problem in that?. I am getting 2.5V from the PC transmission and other cyclone V evaluation board phy interface.

Hi Rose,

I have the same problem (pinging problem) with GMII/MII interface also. But no register to configure the clock delay, Now what else option available.

I am able receive the packet. But only transmission is the problem.

Hi Shanmugam,

Can you send me a scope show of the TX path when in GMII/MII operation?
I would like to see TX_CLK in relation to TX data.

There are no delay options for these two interfaces. The standard requires the MAC to send data with delay to ensure proper setup/hold at the PHY.

Hi Ross,

I found the problem. The problem was with mac. it was not sending the CRC word in the ethernet frame. I solved that and it is working now.
