TPS65982-EVM: Issue with Apple multiport AV adapter

Hi,

I tried using the Apple multiport AV adapter powered by an Apple 61W USB-C power adapter but I don't manage to negotiate the 20V 3A profile, I only get 5V 500 mA. I made the test without the adapter, powering directly the TPS65982-EVM by the Apple 61W USB-C power adapter and I get the 20V 3A profile. The Apple multiport AV adapter should be able to be powered by the 61W power adapter as it is used to charge the Macbook. Has anyone encountered this issue ? Did I do something wrong ?

Hi Mehdi,

If you have access to a PD analyzer such as a Teledyne Lecroy or a TotalPhase PD analyzer, you can see if the multiport adapter is advertising a 20V 3A PD contract to the 82EVM through its Source Capabilities message. If you have configured the Sink Capabilites and Autonegotiate Sink configurations correctly for this application, the TPS65982EVM should always select the 20V contract when it is advertised.

Mehdi, As Eric suggested, PD logs and scope-captures (CC and VBUS) will help identify the problem - I'd also request you to upgrade the adapter's FW (Instructions: support.apple.com/.../HT205858) and retest.
