Hi All,

Looking for an HDMi to LVDS interface. While browsing through the website i found TFP401 and SN75LVDS83B suitable for my design.

I have few issues in concern with design using these 2 ics. Please clarify the following points.

1. How do i connect the I2C lines from the HDMI interface.

2. Does these devices require any software to be run. Or these devices are self sufficient with the minimum hardware settings.

3. Should i route the HDMI signals directly to TFP401 or should there be any buffer in between. If so suggest the buffer that needs to be used.

4. If i need to send any configuration data to display, how that needs to be transmitted.

5. what happens if power on and power off sequence are not followed.

Requesting for quick response as i am in mid of the design and needs to deliver by 1st week of March2017.

Chiru,
The TPF401 is a DVI interface device, and not HDMI.
I will move your post to high speed interface forum.
They may have suggestions that will meet your needs.

Hi Wade,

When i was looking for an HDMI to LVDS converter and i came across "SLLA325A – April 2013" document.

It clearly says that i can interface HDMI signals to TFP401

Please clarify.

Hi Wade,

On the HDMI signals i will not be transmitting any audio signals. Its pure pictures and videos.

Please suggest me an solution at the earliest.

Hello,
1. The DDC lines from HDMI are not supposed to be routed through the TFP401, you have to route them directly from the GPU to the panel.
2. No software required.
3. Yes, you can route them directly to the TFP401, depending on your PCB trace length you may or may not require a buffer.
4. That will depend on your panel, usually the control data is sent during the blanking periods which is when the DE signal is low, this has to be done by your GPU, the TFP401 is only a de-serializer, it is not involved on the configuration or format.
5. The TFP401 does not have a power sequence requirement. The power-up sequence described on LVDS83B datasheet is more a recommendation as many of the panels in the market expect those events to happen in order to power-up correctly, this will depend on your panel.

Hi,

Thanks for the inputs. So i can connect HDMI lines to TFP401, it will support all formats of pictures and videos. Is my understanding correct.

Is it possible to share the reference design if available. Or can you review my schematics and provide comments

Hello,
Yes, you can send any video/picture as long as the pixel clock is supported by the TFP401 (25MHz~165MHz).
The HDMI signal shall not contain embedded audio.
