LMH0340: LMH0340 2.5V power supply question

Part Number: LMH0340

Hi,

I have several LMH0340 parts in my design with about a 1.3A total requirement for the 2.5V. I would prefer using an existing switching regulator 2.5V output already available on the board. I understand the data sheet prefers a linear regulator, but can  TI provide any guidance on the approach of using passive filtering on a <20mV @ 500kHz ripple switching regulator output and whether I can anticipate any performance degradation relative to a LDO based 2.5V supply solution.

Thanks,

Mitch

  • Hi Mitch,

For power supply filtering, I recommend looking at the following application notes:

Regarding an LDO approach, as long as you can assure the power supply requirements (adequate current and within power supply ripple limits) are observed, I do not expect a performance degradation from the SDI device. The value of using a linear regulator is based mostly in better power efficiency as well as minimal ripple on the supply, thereby simplifying the overall power filter design process.

    Regards,
