SN65HVD75: Is to possible to use at Vcc=5V

Dear specialists,

My customer is considering SN65HVD75.

He'd like to use it VCC=5V.

Is it possible?

According to the datasheet of absolute maximum rating, VCC is 5.5V, it may be able to use.

Is it correct?

Also, SN65HVD75 is specialized in only 3.3V, is there any reason?

The absolute maximum ratings specify the limits beyond which the chip might blow up immediately. Just because you stay below does not imply that the device actually works; the datahsheet says:

These are stress ratings only and functional operation of the device at these or any other conditions beyond those indicated under Recommended Operating Conditions is not implied.

And the Recommended Operating Conditions do not allow more than 3.6 V.

What happens with 5 V is not specified. It might work, or not; there is no guarantee.

We do not expect SN65HVD75 to function properly at VCC = 5 V; it is designed with a 3.3-V power supply in mind. You would need to use a 5-V transceiver like SN65HVD3085E or SN65HVD82 (if lower data rates are acceptable).

I will send the customer SN65HVD75 is for 3.3V supply, 5V is not suitable.

Also I promote other device of 5V supply.
