LMH1218: Total power of LMH1218 with both outputs utilized

Part Number: LMH1218

Hello,

We are planning on designing in the LMH1218 and want to use both of the outputs.  The question we have is:

What is the total power for this case?  The datasheet lists the power for when OUT0 is used and for when OUT1 is used but not when both are used.  Would the total power be the addition of these two?

Thanks in advance,

Kevin McNulty

  • Hi Kevin,

I do not currently have characterization data to reference regarding this scenario. However, I was able to get a quick measurement from the LMH1218EVM in the lab. By enabling OUT1, I observed that there is approximately a 50-70 mA increase in the current consumption.  Therefore, I estimate that with both outputs enabled, when considering the typical power consumption with OUT0 enabled is 300 mW, I would expect that with OUT0 and OUT1 enabled, typical power consumption is around 425-475 mW.

It will not be exactly an addition of power consumption for OUT0 and OUT1 individually powered, since there are internal chip elements that are used in common when either of the two are enabled, such as the reclocker.

    Thanks,

    Michael
