DS100BR111: WEBENCH Interface Designer Eye Diagram Issue

Part Number: DS100BR111

I am interested in using a signal conditioner for a 10 Gbps Ethernet application. I am having an issue with the WEBENCH Interface Designer. I am using the generic Tx and Rx. The signal conditioner I am using is the DS100BR111. I uploaded the S-parameter file for my channel for Channel1. The channel is 2" of trace with a differential impedance of 100 ohms. Vias are located at both ends of the trace. At low speeds, the SC_IN diagram looks good. Just above 8 Gbps, a horizontal line develops that goes straight through the middle of the eye. Adjusting parameters cannot remove the line. I have simulated this channel in HyperLynx using the transmitter and receiver models for an ASIC I plan to use, and the eye diagrams look fine at 10.3125 Gbps. Do you know a reason why I could be getting this line?

I have attached a picture showing what my eye diagrams look like in HyperLynx using the same channel I am trying to use in WEBENCH. I have also attached the .s4p file for the channel. My WEBENCH simulation setup and results are shown in the rest of the pictures.

  • Hi Mark,

The 1 Gbps eye at the DS100BR111 input does not look healthy.  The very fast output slew rate in the generic Tx may be interacting with your vias.  I would try to reduce the slew rate to ~ 50ps or use a TI driver (like the BR111) for a Tx function as well.

The hyperlynx eye is not very open for a 2" trace either.  2" of FR4 is < 2 dB of loss at 5 GHz.  The eye opening should be much larger for a clean channel.

    Regards,
