TPS65986: TPS65986 update code

Part Number: TPS65986

Dear Sir

I saw TI have document to describe code update from EC

I have a few question ,please kindly help to advise

1. If my application is docking ,do I need to add TUSB3410 or FT4323 ?

2. I saw TI reference design TUSB3410 I2C signal connect with I2C_SCL1 and I2C_SDA1

When I program SPI flash ,have any thing I need to take care or some register I need to set ?

Thanks

  • Hi Kai,

I just wanted to let you know that there is a software tool for updating the firmware on tps6598x device using TUSB3410. I will give this to you as soon as I can locate it.

    Thanks
  • Dear Jeffery

Sorry!! I don't understand your mean

Due to this docking is for consumer ,so our consumer customer will not use TI's tool to update TPS65982 's code

We will provide "..exe" file to customer and they can use their desktop PC to update the code

    May I know

    1. should I add a external IC for code update ?

    2. have any document describe this process

  • Hi Kai,

There are 2 different ways to allow the user to update the FW on the tps65982

    1) The first way is FTDI (FT4323) =>
***step by step procedure to this flash method can be found under page 11 of <www.ti.com/.../slvuar8a.pdf>
***note: the config tool is located here:
    <www.ti.com/.../tps6598x-config>
download by clicking on "TPS6598X- CONFIG:" => "GET SOFTWARE"
note: the FDTI uses USB to I2C to communicate with host interface.
note: you can also go to the top menu and click 'device' -> flash FW OR reflash EVM FW

    2) The second way is using the TPS6598x Utilities GUI : this tool provides 2 different ways (a/b) to flash the FW
    a) 'Host Interface FW update' which uses the I2C host interface
    b) 'SPI FW update' the user can locate the FW .bin image and do a full flash with SPI

note: I find the 'SPI FW update' on the utilities GUI more convienent and easier to update FW.
***step by step procedure to this flash method can be found under page 10 of <www.ti.com/.../slva701c.pdf>
note: the TPS6598x Utilities GUI uses SPI to do a full flash directly
***note: the utilities GUI can be found at <www.ti.com/.../tps65982-hiutility>

Let me know how I can further assist you.
    Thanks
