Hello,

I have a quick question. I was reading the datasheet and noticed that if I'm using OUTPUT 7 (only that output), I should use an external Schottky diode to protect the OUT7 pin from negative transients.

I'm using it without that schottky diode to drive a relay

What's so special about OUTPUT 7, is it different from all the other OUTPUTS???

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Juan,

To help answer your question, could you please provide the voltage and current needed to drive the relay? Is this same voltage being used at the COM pin?

Hello Alek,

The voltage used to drive the relay is 24V, same voltage is used at the COM pin. Current is about 8mA

Hi Juan,

While that is a pretty light load, I would still recommend the external diode on OUT7. This output is more susceptible to inductive load switching than the other outputs and not having the diode could cause issues with the device.
