Starterware/TPS65986EVM: TPS65986EVM enumerates as TPS65982

We are trying to use the TPS65986 Evaluation Module hooked up to one of our devices, but are running into some problems.  We have USB D+ / D- hooked up to our existing device from the eval module, and wanted to communicate with as a USB device / UFP through the eval's type C connector.

We are using the eval module configuration in section  5.3.3.8 of http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/slvuaf8c/slvuaf8c.pdf . We see our device enumerate for ~1 second, but then it is replaced by the TPS65982 USB device.

 

A few questions:

- Any ideas on why this would be?

- Are we using the right configuration?  

- We just have D+, D- & a ground wire hooked up between the eval module and our device.  Anything else we'd need to connect?

- Is there any special FW that needs to be flashed, or should it work right out of the box?
