TCA9517: TCA9517 / Level shifter for HDMI DDC

Part Number: TCA9517
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCA9509

Hi,

I'm considering TCA9517 for HDMI DDC and found this thread.

e2e.ti.com/.../540657

I need to translate from 5V to 1.8V but then it seems that TCA9517 can't pass HDMI compliance test from this thread. So do you have other solution that can use for HDMI DDC level shifter from 5V to 1.8V?

Best Regards,

  • Hello S. Satoshi,

The TCA9517 CAN pass HDMI compliance testing, but you will have to connect the A-side to the cable.  This is due to the fact that the circuitry on the B side can interact with the capacitance measurement test equipment and give incorrect capacitance measurements.

I have put a link to another E2E post that discuss this in a bit more detail.

If you still have questions after reading let me know and I will try and clarify any specific questions you might have.

  • Hi Francis,

I already checked that E2E post and understand that A side has to be connected to the cable. Then in this case, I need to translate to 1.8V but B side can be used down to 2.7V, so TCA9517 can't meet my requirement.
Do you have other solution for my requirement?

    Best Regards,
    Satoshi
  • Hi Francis,

Please let me ask again to use TCA9517 for HDMI DDC. My customer is considering to use two pcs of TCA9517 to translate from 1.8V to 5V for HDMI DDC. Can you recommend to use with following configuration?

  • Hello Satoshi-san,

Have you considered using the TCA9509.  I have attached a reference diagram for your application.  This should work find.  The buffer on this part is on the A side, therefore it will not interact with the capacitance testing for the B side.

  • Hi Francis,

Thank you for recommending TCA9509. I'll introduce it and discuss with customer.

Just to tell you, I can't find TCA9509 to meet my requirement because its minimum VCC is 2.7V in selection table in TI.com. I hope you to consider to show min/max for both VCCA and VCCB.

    Best Regards,
