DS90UB913Q-Q1: Data Split for 913-914 SERDES

Part Number: DS90UB913Q-Q1

We are making use of SERDES parts DS90UB913Q and 914Q in our design.

On the board with Serializer (913), Due to some mechanical assembly constrain we are working on splitting the Power(POCX) and Data (FPD) with two different connectors.

1.       For Power 2 Pin connector – Separate Power input from the controller board

2.       For Data (FPD) Single Ended Coax connector – FPD Link to the controller board

By splitting the Power(POCX) and Data (FPD) will there be any issue with the performances, could you suggest us on this.

You early response will be helpful for our current design change.

On the other hand, I have some more questions related to this.

1)Do you have any criteria for this(insertion loss(dB) vs frequency(Hz)) for FPD Link?

Because this usage is specific case like length or speed so on.

  • Hrushikesh,

The DS90UB913Q/914Q are designed for STP cabling. The DS90UB913A/914A chipset is designed for use with coax or STP cable. See section 6 Device Comparison Table of the DS90UB91xQ-Q1 datasheet.

Please see the following documents for sending power over coax in a 913A/914A design. www.ti.com/.../snla224.pdf The information in here describes how to design the PoC network and send power over the same cable as the FPD-Link data.

Also refer to the following for cable requriements in a 913A/914A design. www.ti.com/.../snla229.pdf
"For reliable operation of the DS90UB913A and DS90UB914A the return loss must be less than -10dB for
    frequencies from 10MHz to 1GHz."
