DP83848C: Cable Connect-Disconnect status

Part Number: DP83848C

Can i use PHYSTS<bit-0> register to check whether cable is plugged or unplugged or i have to read BMSR<bit-2> register.

  • Hello Anishkumar,

Both the bits mentioned above are link status bit and not cable connect bits. There can be a case where cable is connected but link is not established. In that case both the bits will be 0. It will depend on you application if this is acceptable or not. PHYSTS<bit0> and BMSR<bit2> are identical so using either of the two is fine. Please note that BMSR needs to be read twice to get the correct link status value.

Can you elaborate more on the application and how cable plug/unplug is used in the application?
