What pieces of equipment do customers need to test and validate FPD-LinkIII on the bench?  Items to be tested are:

  • Cable performance
  • Return loss, insertion loss
  • Eye diagram
  • Jitter
  • Overall system performance, e.g. BERT type testing

Are there recommendations for test setups, procedures and passing criteria?

    Hi Mark,

    Cable performance can be measured with a network analyzer and the appropriate input connectors, however the insertion and return losses should be characterized already and available from the cable manufacturer.

    The Eye Diagram and Jitter can be monitored and measured with reasonable accuracy via CMLOUT pins on most FPDLink devices via a high speed scope.

    Most FPDLink devices have BIST (Built In Self Test) that provides BER over a period of time and can be read out of the corresponding register.
