Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS15EA101
Hi everybody,
My application is as follows. I’m transferring data over a cable up to 80m (120ohm diff. impedance, twisted pair, 50pF/m) with a data rate up to 100Mbps. I prefer an LVDS driver because of the low power consumption. I’m using SN65LVDS100 but after 80 meters the eye diagram is completely closed. No receiver is used in the application. My setup consists of a waveform generator set to transfer PRBS data and I capture it with an oscilloscope.
My questions are:
1) Is here a pre/de-emphasis driver needed/recommended and what options could I use from the TI portfolio?
2) What about using a receiver with or without equalization? Options?
3) Are there differential line drivers/receivers available that I could use instead of LVDS?
I’ve found a receiver IC (DS15EA101) with automatic compensation for cable length but this chip has been in the market for almost 10 years. I'm worried about possible obsolescence within the next 5 years.
Are there any pin compatible alternatives available? Or are there replacement parts in development (not necessary pin-compatible)?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Best regards,
Petri
