SN65HVD251: Which ESD Modle should I consider "Human Body Model" or "Charged-Device Model for SN65HVD251DR.

Part Number: SN65HVD251

Which ESD Modle should I consider  "Human Body Model" or "Charged-Device Model for SN65HVD251DR below case?

There are two models as the condition of "Electrostatic discharge", "Human Body Model" and "Charged-Device Model"  on SN65HVD251DR Datasheet Page 4 6.2 "ESD Ratings".

When the connector of cable which connected to SN65HVD251DR is connected to other charged parts,  which model should I consider "Human Body Model" or "Charged-Device Model"?

Appreciate,

  • Hi Taka Ishiyama,

The type of ESD that you would want to reference for the application that you describe is CDM or charged device model. HBM is more of a handling spec and is design to stress a system or device for ESD levels that are expected during handling by an operator. Here is a good application note that discusses the various types of ESD in out data sheets:

    .

Please let me know what other questions you have?

  • Hi Michel,

I really applicate that your advise and attached application note.

I will check that and use CDM model.

    Apprecate,

    Taka
