DS280BR820: DS280BR820 questions

Part Number: DS280BR820

Hi Team,

The customer has three questions about DS280BR820.

Q1: Can the GAIN  be adjusted for  DS280BR820? If it can be adjusted, what is the adjustment step? Or how to adjust the GAIN?

Q2: Can the speed meet from 100mbps to 28gbps?

Q3: What is the max delay time of the signal from the input channel to the output channel for DS280BR820?

  • Hi Mickey,

Q1:  The Gain adjustment can be accomplished using the SMBus register controls for equalization boost and bandwidth.  The complete table of gain settings is provided on pages 16-20 of the DS280BR820 Programmers Guide.  I recommend to take an approach using a low level of boost, then increasing the boost as needed to achieve optimal and robust system eye opening statistics.

Q2:  Yes the DS280BR820 can work with all datarates from less than 100Mbps. The amount of boost available at 100Mbps will be quite low, even with the maximum possible DS280BR820 gain settings.

Q3: The maximum propagation delay has not be fully characterized.  The typical delay is 100 ps in linear mode and 160 ps in limiting mode.  I would expect the maximum possible delay in linear mode to be ~ 150ps, in limiting mode the maximum delay is ~ 200ps.
