TUSB8041: Asking for how to report the TUSB8041 upstream report the OC event to CPU

Hi Team
Customer is evaluatin the TUSB8041,customer would like to implement over-current detection on the upstream. ( so CPU can know USB HUB over current happens on the upsteam).
USB hub has over-current pin on the downstream ports but not has OC pin on the upstream port.
On the custoemr design, upstream port connect to CPU direcctly and four downstream ports are connected to USB connector, if any downstream port occur over current event, how to let upstream port know the over-current happened? or can customer use I2C/ SMbus to know over-current happened? Please advise.

Hello SHH,

The TUSB8041 will automatically report overcurrent conditions on the downstream port to the host controller using the hub status endpoint. This reporting occurs using USB protocol, not an external signal.

Hi SHH,

Hub overcurrent reporting is dictated by the USB 2.0 specification. It is covered in section 11.12.5 Over-current Reporting and Recovery. The latest USB 2.0 specification can be downloaded for free from usb.org
