TCA9555: VOL Missing from Datasheet

Part Number: TCA9555

I have a prototype design working with the TCA9555 part.  I am about to start mass production and am reviewing design margins.  I noticed the VOL electrical characteristic is missing from the datasheet (VOH is provided).  Does anyone have this information?  Will the datasheet be updated to include this parameter?

  • Hello Jared,

It is given in the datasheet, but it is a bit confusing because it isn't called out as VOL explicitly.

As you can see, for a given VOL at min Iol is given.  This is essentially is giving the Vds of the FET and the current going through that FET that is connected from the output to ground.   In other words, the resistance of the FET to ground.  Therefore, for your given voltage and load you can figure out what the VOL would be.

Does this make sense?  Let me know if you have additional questions.

  • Thanks Francis for pointing this out. This is a very unconventional way of capturing this information so I didn't see it.
  • Hello Jared,

One more note when looking at this, you see that the Rds_on of the pull down FET changes resistance a little when driving different loads, that is due to Rds_on affect due to temperature.  The higher the load, the higher the temp, the higher the Rds_on.  Just and FYI for you or anyone who looks at this post in the future.
