Use DP159 in the Displayport RX：

1、DisplayPort ++ to TMDS applications(DisplayPort -> HDMI )

2、DisplayPort （DisplayPort -> DisplayPort ）

Use DP159 in the TX：

In addition to output HDMI, dp159 can also output DISPLAYPORT？How to configure the dp159's register？

Hi Doph,

DP159 is a DP++ to TMDS level shifter, it can be configured to work as a DP retimer but not for both applications at the same time.
Follow the application note DP159 as DP retimer: www.ti.com/.../slla358.pdf.

Hi Doph,

Yes, DP159 can be used similar to DP130, you have to follow the application note.
DP159 is a retimer, besides redriving the signal, it will provide jitter and skew cleaning.

Hi Doph,

I'm sorry I didn;t get it before, DP159 as a DP retimer is no recommended in source applications.
During link training Vod and pre-emphasis are adjusted, DP159 is a limited device and won't be able to follow the changes from the GPU.
You can use TUSB546-DCI as DP redriver, this is a linear redriver and will retransmit the signals coming from the GPU conserving the changes in pre-emphasis and Vod.

DP130 monitors AUX channel and configures itself to select the proper pre-emphasis and Vod.

Hi Doph,

That's right, the only function of DP159 in source applications is DP++ to HDMI level shifter.
DP159 in sink application should be a DP retimer.

DP159 as a level shifter in sink application doesn't make sense.
DP159 as DP retimer in source applications, won't have the right behavior during link training.
