TCA9801: can we use amlifier instead the sepcial parts

Part Number: TCA9801

Can we use normal amplifier instead of TAC980X for PMBUS buffer or not.

Does the parts internal has time pull down and up control and data flip-latch? thanks.

BTW mostly buffer main function internal is amplifier, could we use amplifier directly if the data bandwidth and data capcitor is lower than 100Mbps?

  • Hello,

It is generally better to use a dedicated buffer like TCA9801. Amplifier outputs are unidirectional and are always driven (typically with a low-impedance output), so they are not good for use in bidirectional communication channels. The TCA9801 is able to sense when one side of the buffer is being driven by another device and adjust the direction of data flow accordingly, making it a simpler solution for this kind of application.
