TUSB321: Mismatch between CC signals and data

Part Number: TUSB321
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB542, TUSB322I

In my design I want to check functionality of both sides of type C connector without disconnect USB3.1-C cable.

Can I mux between physical connection of CC1 and SS data2 (B side)? Or can you advise something else to check it?

  • Hello Dimitri,

The only way to change the orientation is to disconnect the DIR pin of the TUSB321 and the SS mux and controlling the mux manually. However, this would succeed as a valid connection since you want to configure the mux backwards to the cable itself.

    Regrds,
    Diego.
  • Thank you Diego.

I wasn’t sure about this option of mux.

Just to clarify, I want to use tandem of TUSB321 and TUSB542, when pin “Dir” will connect to TUSB542 pin “Sel”. If result of mux will in next situation: CC of device, which connected to CC1 (through USB3.1-C cable) and mux will connected to CC2 of TUSB321. Would the system work properly?

  • Hello Dimitry,

No, it won't. Please see the TUSB542 datasheet section 8.2.2. Figure 16 shows the TUSB542 controlled by the TUSB322I (which is the TUSB321 with I2C enabled), where you can see that the CC pins are swapped for the proper MUX function. It is also possible to use a transistor to invert the DIR signal between the TUSB321 and the TUSB542.

    Regards,

    Diego.
