TUSB9261: issue when using 25MHz crystal

Part Number: TUSB9261

Dear Specialists,

My customer is using 25MHz crystal for TUSB9261 and encountered the problem.

Some devices are NG and the other are OK.

This is related to listed below URL.

https://e2e.ti.com/support/interface/digital_interface/f/130/p/505963/1834913#1834913

So he would like to know more detail, because the customer's product have already used at end customer, he has to report to the customer.

Could you please advice?

(1) If the device is OK now, will it be OK in future?

(2)Failure rate 3/500 is constant? Is it accidentally happened? Are there possibility to change from OK to NG by aging?

(3)If CLK frequency is 40MHz, is the device spec guarantied?

I appreciate your great help in advance.

Best regards,

Shinichi

  • Hello,

if the devices are good it should be good in the future, certainly using a 40MHz crystall will ensure to avoid this problem.

I sent your answer to the customer.
    He has additional question.

    Could you please advise?

    ---additional questions---

    (1) You mentioned there are no problem in the future currently using 25MHz.
    Please tell me why?
Could you please provide some evidences.

    (2) The cause of error is device individual problem or not?

Is the error rate 3/500 a rate of individual problem?

    (3) Is there a possibility to occur a problem in long term crystal change?

I appreciate your great help and cooperation.

    Best regards,
    Shinichi
  • Hi Shinichi,

    1) The problem is present just in some devices not in all
    2) Yes its an individual problem, failing devices does not fail all the time, it requires at least 30 power cycles.
    3) Using a 40MHz crystal the problem never occurs.

    Regards,
    Roberto
