TMDS181: Use of HPD in Retimer mode

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TS3DV642, , HD3SS215

Hi

First of all, the following image is ideal. However, we couldn't find proper switch solution.

So, we are considering following, using TMDS181 and TS3DV642.

Additionally, we want to make all device go to low power state if there is no valid signal.

So, the following is our idea.

I think some logic ICs to handle other control signal for channel selection would be required but I did not display them for simplifying image.

Could you check if the our configuration is reasonable, and give us your view?

BestRegards

  • Hi Na Na,

    The standard connection is:
    GPU -> TMDS181 -> Receiver

Is the GPU receiving the HDMI video?
TMDS181's HPD_SRC signal is an output signal that comes from HDMI receiver and goes back to the GPU
So, TMDS signals come from GPU and go to reciver; HPD comes from receiver and goes to GPU.

Assuming the GPU block is an HDMI receiver.
We don't have 4:1 HDMI2.0 switches, the diagram on point 2 would be our suggested solution, we also have HD3SS215 in case you want to take a look at it.
HDMI receiver set HPD low when not ready to receive video.
TMDS181 has a 190k internal pull-down to make sure it is disabled when HPD is not high.

We can provide reference schematics of TMDS181 and HD3SS215.

    Regards
