TUSB1046-DCI: TUSB1046 tps65983b

Part Number: TUSB1046-DCI
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65983B, TUSB1064, TUSB422, TUSB322,

Hi All

We are designing a USB type-C docking product. And we plan to use TUSB1046 and TPS65983B in our design.

So we want to know:

1. Would you like to share TUSB1046 and TPS65983B orcad application shcematic with us for reference?

2. Both of them have SBU lines, can we connect them directlly to USB type-C connector's related pins?

3. In TUSB1046 spec, it shows that PD can send some control information to it. Whether the TPS65983B can control TUSB1046 directlly without firmware modification or not? Where we can get fireware code?

4. We have 2 type-C in out design, one is used to work with laptop (DRP), the other is used to work with power adaptor(UFP). That means we need use 2 TPS65983B, how to handle the connection and communication  between 2 TPS65983B?

Thanks for you support and hlep.

thanks

Best regards

  • Hello,

I assume that the dock will be a UFP device, then use the TUSB1064 instead (this device will be released shortly), this device is designed to take the Type-C signals and split them to USB3.1 & DisplayPort. If you want the reference schematic please provide an email to share the files.

We recommend using the TUSB1064 path to connect the SBU and AUX lines.

The TPS65983B should be able to control the TUSB1064 using the existing firmware, there is a configuration tool that generates the appropriate firmware for the application and you can find it in the TPS65983B product page.

At least you need 1 TPS device (the one the DRP port that connects to the laptop), the second port can be controlled either way using one of these three options: TPS65983B, TUSB422 or TUSB321A/TUSB322.

    Best regards,

    Diego.

  • Hi Diego

Thanks for your support and help. My email address is lu.haiping@mingchips.com.

    Yes, you are right.
The TUSB1046-DCI is a DFP device, we can not use it in our docking design. We need a UFP device, which is 10Gbps USB 3.1 Gen2 type-C crosspoint switch and can take type-C data from laptop. Would you like to send us TUSB1064's spec and reference design? And we are also interested in when we could get the realted samples.

We plan to use 2 TPS65983B PD in our design, one is used as DRP (type-C plug) with laptop, the other is used as DFP (type-C receptacle)with external power adapter. We need main power from VBUS switches seamlessly when power adapter is plugged and unplugged. Our external power adapter supports 20V@5A. We are interested in how these 2 TPS65983B communicate and negotiate to change 5V to 20V. That would be helpful if you can send us some related reference designs, which can meet our requirements.

    Thanks again.

    thanks
    best regards
