HD3SS3212: HD3SS3212 / Case of the operation with VCM=0V

Part Number: HD3SS3212
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: USB-CTM-MINIDK-EVM

Hi,

Please let me ask the case of the operation with VCM=0V. From the USB specification, the differential voltage pp is 1.2V diff pp so the negative swing will be -0.3V when VCM=0V. I believe that it will not damage to HD3SS3212 because abs max of Differential I/O is -0.5V. but then I'd like to know if you can guarantee to use with this condition.

Please let me know if you need more information.

Best Regards,

  • Hello Satoshi-san,

The device won't guarantee the proper functionality in such conditions, the absolute maximum ratings are intended to avoid device damage, but the recommended operating conditions provides a frame that guarantees the device functionality. In this case, the minimum differential input voltage is 0.

    Regards,

    Diego.

  • Hi Diego,

We understand that it can't be recommended to pass the signal that swing below 0V, but my customer would like to see the actual behavior when it's used with no DC bias condition. So can you take it and give the captured waveform? I know that HD3SS3212 is implemented in USB-CTM-MINIDK-EVM but it's quite complex to evaluate only HD3SS3212.
