TS3USB221A: Configuration as 2 Hosts and 1 Peripheral

Part Number: TS3USB221A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TS3USB221, , TS3USB221E

Hello

Thank you for taking the time to read this.  We are looking to use your TS3USB221 family of devices. I have a couple questions on them.

1)  We are looking to use this in a configuration where on the 1D+/1D- and 2D+/2D- there is a Host connected to each port and the D+/D- is connected to the peripheral device like a KVM switch.  Is this a valid configuration using the TS3USB221A chips?

2)  Do you have any recommendations using the configuration mentioned in above in 1 on how to hooked up the grounds and VBUS, +5V?  Having 2 Hosts creates a problem because you have 2 BUS, +5V, sources.  What is your recommendation on this?

3)  What is the difference between the TS3USB221A and TS3USB221E versions?  Is it just the wider bandwidth of the E than the A?

Thank you for your help

Gary

  • Hello Gary,

I can answer you the questions for TS3USB221 device family.

    1) Yes, connecting two host to one device is a valid configuration for TS3USB221.

    3) TS3USB221E has improved ESD protection compared to TS3USB221A. Please see the section ESD Ratings of the datasheets for details.

    Best regards
