TPS65982: How to Use This Device for Data processing

Part Number: TPS65982

Hi all,

I am working with the TPS65982 to implement a USB-C reader. The goal of this project is to receive information provided over the CC line, process it, and transmit it over one of the I2C ports to a display. I am very new to this component and was looking for a general idea on how to do this with the TPS65982.

Thanks

Danny C.

  • Hi Danny,

That is a good question. I know that CC communication on the 82 is BMC and if you want to read this on I2C then you will need to decode this. However, the 82s host interface is I2C and you can read the PD communication with 'PDst' command or you can read different registers on the HI-utility GUI tool which is very convenient . Let me ask the team more on how to get this done the best way. I will update you tomorrow.

    Thanks
  • Hi Danny,

To follow up with you, The PDst register will only also you to look at the current state of the PD controller. Your best bet as of today would be to use a PD sniffer for example Eyllisis, Lecroy, Google twinkie however the cheapest one is the TotalPhase (which I attached the link below).
